Make this the month you learn Twined Knitting

Twined knitting (also known as two-end knitting) is a traditional Scandinavian technique that produces a dense, firm, and incredibly warm fabric – perfect for mittens, socks, cuffs, and hats that actually stand up to real-life wear. By working with two strands of yarn at the same time and twisting them between every stitch, you create a structurally unique fabric that you simply can’t get with modern “fast” knitting methods.

Now you can learn this beautiful heritage technique step by step inside Stitchorama.
In this class, you will:
* Get comfortable holding and managing two strands for twined knitting
* Work a two-color cast-on for a beautiful, sturdy edge
* Learn a decorative and functional twined braid
* Practice the basic twined knitting technique on focused swatches
* Finish with a two-color bind-off for a cohesive, professional look
* Choose one of 18 included patterns to test your new skills in a twined-knitted swatch
The class is perfect for adventurous intermediate knitters who love learning traditional techniques and want to knit pieces that are both practical and full of history.
Twined knitting takes a little more time and attention than ordinary knitting – but in return, you get fabric that is warmer, more wind-resistant, and much more hard-wearing than regular stockinette.
Twined knitting is now available in Stitchorama – come twist some yarn with us!

Available only until May 16.

What this Yearly Event is

This is a year-long knitting experience for makers who love colorwork, stories and slow, meaningful projects. Over 12 months, you’ll explore stranded knitting traditions from different regions of the world, especially the rich Scandinavian styles with their stars, lice patterns and bold geometric motifs.

Instead of a single big course that overwhelms you, you get one focused technique, one clear mini-course and one friendly community space every month, so you can actually knit, learn and finish.

What you get every month:

Technique

  •  1 brand-new stranded knitting technique inspired by a specific region or tradition, with extra attention to Scandinavian colorwork.

The end-of-year e-book

If you stay with the program for the full year, you’ll receive a beautifully designed e-book that collects all 12 patterns, notes and technique highlights in one place.

Think of it as your personal stranded-knitting library: a mix of global inspiration and Scandinavian classics that you can return to whenever you want to cast on a new colorwork project.

Mini-course
  • A focused mini-course in a private community, where you see step by step how to work the key techniques for that month’s theme.

Tips and Community

  • Tips on color choices, float management, tension and chart reading, so your stranded knitting becomes smoother, more even and more enjoyable.

  • A warm, low-pressure group of knitters who love colorwork as much as you do and are happy to share what works in their hands.

Who Stitchorama is perfect for
  • This Yearly Event is perfect for you if: You’re fascinated by stranded colorwork and want to go beyond “just Fair Isle” into different regional traditions and motifs.

  • You already know how to knit and purl, but you want more confidence with managing two colors, keeping even tension and choosing strong color combinations.

  • You prefer a calm, structured rhythm – one technique and one mini-course each month – instead of trying to cram everything into a weekend workshop.

  • You miss being part of a friendly, nerdy knitting group that understands why you care about floats, charts and the difference between Norwegian, Icelandic, Shetland and other styles.

I need this

Hi, my name is Tone.

I have studied knitting as a craft for over 20 years, and I bring a long résumé as a knitwear designer, speaker, teacher, yarn dyer, and tech editor. In Designbonanza, I share all my knowledge about knitwear design and the craft of knitting.

I don’t believe in shortcuts when it comes to craftsmanship – but I do believe in smart paths. In the Designbonanza Live Club, you get to see how I think, test, fail, adjust, and arrive at solutions that actually work in real life, not just look good on paper. My goal is that you walk away with knowledge that makes you feel freer as a knitter and designer – confident enough to make your own choices, without feeling more confused along the way.
